Gassed up at Costco at almost 40 cents per gallon less than the local gas station. Packed up the car and drove west past the Aquarium to the Lahaina and Kaanapali area.
Easily reached the Westin Ocean Villas Resort, great service from valet/ bellhop who took charge of car and luggage while we went to check- in. Of course, our room wasn't ready -- we knew that occupancy was at 4 pm and it was only 2 pm. Our room wasn't in the section that I wanted but we accepted what they had and after a brief walk around the pool and down to the beach, we got the call that our room was ready. The studio unit is quit large with a small kitchen, washer/ dryer, large bathroom with shower and tub and Juliet balcony overlooking the restaurant and pool ( containing lots of screaming kids). Fortunately the room is very quiet IF the outside door is closed.
I got a message from Ellen asking if anything was waiting for me in the room...and so began the saga of poor service. Phone calls to the desk were cut off, several times; Art's trip to the concierge produced the info that it ( whatever it was) was out for delivery; and my trip back to the concierge 45 minutes later produced a convoluted story about how the delivery process worked but no resolution. Angry about the total lack of customer service - the concierge told me her department had nothing to do with this problem and told me to go to the registration desk! Finally found someone concerned who left me to bring the info to her manager. While she was gone, the concierge come to me with yet another employer who did not introduce herself but gave me a gift with a card attached with my name on it and rudely told me she'd explain to the manager ( I will, also, tomorrow). At this point, other then sending FB messages to my daughter and son, it was too late in the east to call to say Thank You.
On the positive side, the lobby area and landscaping are lovely, and the beach beautiful AND we face west so will continue to have breath taking sunsets. Off we went on the free shuttle to Whaler's Village where a rainbow greeted us and there are lots of shops and restaurants. we walked around and then had a casual dinner at Leilani's on the Beach and another glorious sunset.
Shuttle back to the Westin accompanied by the story of Maui sugar cane by Eddie, the driver. Looking forward to a warm and sunny day tomorrow .... Enough rain!
