Thursday, last day on Oahu

Sleeping so good when the telephone woke us at 5:45 am!  Clearly this has not been a sleeping vacation.  They call was for " someone who needed help- we know not what kind - and they dialed our number in error :(

So....we kept our regular, for here, routine.  Coffee, breakfast and a final walk the full length of the Lagoon path to the end by the JW Marriott and back to the Marina.  Today was laundry day ( once again thankful for timeshares with laundry facilities).  We will be off to Maui early tomorrow morning with all clean clothes and ready for the 2nd part of our visit to Hawaii.  After 2 loads of laundry it was snorkel/beach time..

Temps in the high 70s/low 80s, clear skies and about 20 people on our lagoon's beach.  So grateful that newbies to Hawaii have lots to see and do and, therefore, are off property most of the day.  We spent several calm, peaceful hours on the beach then showered and dressed for lunch.

I had purchased a Groupon Deal from home for a Seafood Feast for 2 at a local Bar and Grill in the town of Mailli - about 15 miles straight down Farrington highway from KoOlina.  Once again we found a funky little place where locals hang out with good food.  We actually had a hard time finding the restaurant even after we saw the sign and parked. A nice woman directed us up a steep flight of stairs with no restaurant sign where, to our amazement, there was a bar and almost every table was full.  A sweet young woman greeted us, explained the menu and brought our beers in rapid succession.

In short order, our Feast began to arrive in sequence by courses ...first Pupu steak - small pieces of steak that had been dried then deep fried crisp and served with Poi, Soy sauce, rice and onions - not my favorite and certainly not good for us but a local experience nevertheless.  Next, a huge portion of Cajun fries arrived ( they must have made a sharp right turn to detour here from  Cajun land :) ). We took more than half home to have with our sandwich dinner later.  Next came a huge, and I do mean huge, tub of garlic steamed seafood (shrimp, crawfish, clams, mussels, crab legs) along with corn and potatoes.  More than enough food for 3 people.  We did pretty well but even we could not finish everything.  A leisurely ride home along the coast that I love ended our lunch trip,

Finished laundry, did most of our packing, printed boarding tickets, and knocked off the rest of the bottle of prepared Margaritas that we bought at Costco for $9.99!  What a deal...most bars charged between 10 and 15 $ for one drink and our bottle lasted all week.   We liked the Margaritas so much that we will be stopping to pick up another bottle in Maui!  One last walk to the beach for yet more sunset pictures...I never tire of them...that turned out to be the best yet.

Will add pictures later so, if you've read this far, check back in a few days....

Asked for a wake-up call for 5 AM to have time to fill up the car at Costco before returning it and to deal with the horrid traffic on the H-1 (one of 3 main highways in Oahu - H-1, 2 and 3 and called interstates :) based on the funding for building the roads.  To bed early and looking forward to Maui.
